Vitamin C skin care is for you! Whether you are meeting someone for the first time or spending time with someone you see frequently, your skin is one of the first things people notice. Improving the quality of your skin to give yourself a beautiful complexion makes you feel better on the inside, and look your best on the outside. Vitamin C skin care products help you say good-bye to sun damage, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and HELLO to healthy glowing skin. It is truly one of the best natural ingredients you can use to improve the look and health of your skin. Not only is it effective when used topically, but it also helps your skin when you consume it in foods or supplements.
Sun damage causes significant aging to your skin. Oxidative stress caused by UV rays is responsible for age related changes in your skin such as wrinkles, due to a reduction of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. A study completed by Frontiers in Physiology, showed that collagen, which is woven together to create support for your skin, is greatly disrupted and the strength of its structure is reduced by the oxidative stress from UV rays.(1) UVA radiation can increase MMP-1, an enzyme that can break down collagen when it is not well regulated, but Vitamin C has been shown to inhibit its increase, therefore helping to preserve collagen.(2) A study in the Clinical Cosmetic Investigative Dermatology Journal concluded after measuring skin with ultrasound technology that topically applied Vitamin C is highly efficient in restoring skin and inducing collagen synthesis for all ages.(3) Vitamin C skin care for the win!
The outer layer of your skin is an important barrier for your skins health and your overall health. Vitamin C helps maintain and create a healthy protective barrier by improving the differentiation of skin cells and decreasing water loss from your skin.(4) This helps prevent dry irritated skin. Vitamin C skin care will offer you a natural topical way to improve your skin. It is rejuvenating, anti-aging, and reduces scaring by promoting wound healing that can come from acne. Vitamin C has been proven effective alone in reducing acne. It may reduce the oxidation of sebum decreasing the occurrence of acne pimples, and be an anti-inflammatory attenuating irritation caused by acne.(5) Once I started using Vitamin C skin care I noticed a major difference in the appearance of my skin. It was much brighter, and smoother!
Vitamin C Skin Care Can be Enhanced by Adding Other Ingredients to Increase Vitamin C's Effectiveness.
One of the difficulties of Vitamin C is that it oxidizes quickly and can become less effective, but with the addition of Ferulic Acid, and Vitamin E it helps to stabilize and enhance the effectiveness of the Vitamin C skin care product. The stability of Vitamin C is improved by the addition of ferric acid, a plant antioxidant, and vitamin E. When these ingredients were added to the formulation containing vitamin C it doubled the protection from the UV rays, and it is also shown to have protective effects against skin cancer.(6)
There is an abundance of evidence to show that vitamin C is very effective at protecting the skin from the damage caused by the suns rays, and it helps to maintain the firmness of the skin through aiding collagen synthesis, but the is not much evidence that Vitamin C alone decreases hyperpigmentation or melasma. However, one study from the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy showed that when used in conjunction with a salicylic acid peel the hyperpigmentation spots were reduced with no harmful side effects, which is very positive because hyperpigmentation can be difficult to treat.(7)
Consuming vitamin C in conjunction with other vitamins and minerals increases skin hydration and decreases sun damage on the skin.(8)(9) You can obtain vitamin C from a variety of food sources, such as kale, kiwi, broccoli, oranges, acerola cherries, just to name a few. I prefer to use Forever Beautiful an organic superfood mix from the company Your Super to increase my intake of Vitamin C.

Marie Veronique Vitamins C+E+Ferulic Serum
Pure Henry Opinion
This serum combines the moisturizing benefits of olive oil with green tea extract and vitamins C + E+ ferulic acid. It is a powerful product that nourishes your skin with anti-aging ingredients and aids in hydration. If you tend to have combination skin this is a great product for you. As stated above when you combine vitamins C+E+ferulic acid it doubles the photo protection your skin gets. Ferulic acid helps increase hydration, while the green tea extract controls sebum production and reduces water loss from your skin. (10) It has a very pleasant herbal aroma.

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum
Pure Henry Opinion
Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum is one of my favorite vitamin C skin care products. If this is your first time trying a vitamin C serum, Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum, is a great place to start because it is effective and has a nice price point. This vitamin C serum has a light slippery feel, but it quickly absorbs into the skin within a minute or two. There is not a tingling sensation and it is mild enough to use twice a day. Two to three drops are sufficient, and I use it as the directions indicate, which is morning and night. This product definitely increased the brightness of my skin.

Nuori Supreme-C Serum
Pure Henry Opinion
I Love Nuori's commitment to fresh products with potent active ingredients. It produces products around the idea that freshness is paramount. It is well know that many vitamins and ingredients used in cosmetics lose their potency if they have an extended shelf life and are not in stabilized formulas. Nuori blends its products in small batches every 10 to 12 weeks to ensure freshness. Nuori supreme-C serum comes with the vitamin C powder in the lid and is only activated when you depress the top of the lid and inject the vitamin C powder into the activator serum. You need to actively shake the bottle to dissolve the powder completely. I found that even after shaking vigorously for 1 minute the powder didn't dissolve. After the product sat overnight and I used it again in the morning it was completely dissolved. When you purchase supreme-C serum, you receive two vials of product. You are suppose to use one for 10 days and then begin to use the next one. This ensures the product you are using is always fresh. I found my bottle lasted longer than 10 days. This serum easily glides on your skin and absorbs after a minute or two. It definitely increased the brightness of my skin and I can tell in the morning if I forget to apply it the previous night.

True Botanicals Vitamin C Booster
Pure Henry Opinion
This product comes in a powder form to preserve its freshness. It is very pure product! Once mixed with a liquid, vitamin C oxidizes more quickly and can loose some of its effectiveness. You must mix this with an activator, such as True Botanicals Renew Repair Serum or Refresh Repair Serum. Each of these serums are $140. This vitamin C booster due to its potency is very effective. It definitely keeps my skin brighter and smoother. It can be slightly difficult to use the correct amount of the booster powder. You simply shake it out of the bottle and the amount is not exact. Sometimes, I will use too much and get a slight tingly feeling and a little irritation. If that happens it is an easy fix. You simply decrease the amount of powder you mix with the serum. I have found two shakes is the perfect amount for me.
